Eligibility Criteria
RBI has strict requirements for this specialist role. Here is what you need to qualify:
1. Educational Qualification
- Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized University/Institution.
- Minimum Marks: At least 50% marks (aggregate) for General/OBC/EWS candidates. For SC/ST/PwBD, the minimum is 45%.
2. Experience (Mandatory)
You must have a minimum of 2 years of experience after enrollment with the Bar Council as:
- An Advocate, OR
- A Law Officer in the legal department of a bank, financial institution, or government body, OR
- A full-time Law faculty member in a recognized Law College/University.
3. Age Limit (As of Feb 1, 2026)
SC/ST/OBC/PwBD: As per standard government norms.
Minimum: 21 years
Maximum: 32 years
Relaxations: * LL.M. holders: Up to 35 years.
Ph.D. in Law: Up to 37 years.
Salary and Perks

Basic Pay: Starting at ₹78,450/- per month.

Scheme of Selection
The exam is designed to test your core legal knowledge and your ability to articulate complex arguments.
Phase 1: Written Examination (250 Marks)
- Paper I (General Knowledge of Law): 150 Marks (3 Hours). Includes both Objective and Descriptive questions focusing on Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Commercial Law, and Banking Laws.
- Paper II (English – Descriptive): 100 Marks (3 Hours). Tests your essay writing, précis, and comprehension skills.
Phase 2: Interview (40 Marks)
Candidates who meet the cut-off in the written exams will be called for a personal interview to assess their suitability for the bank’s regulatory environment.
