Khan Sir is a well-known educator who provides both online and offline coaching. At a time when many educational institutions charge high fees for courses, he is recognised for offering quality education at affordable rates and, in some cases, free of cost. He has also reportedly established a hospital using his own funds to support the treatment of underprivileged people who cannot afford medical care. Khan Sir is widely known for his humorous teaching style and for making education accessible to students from economically weaker backgrounds. His real name is Faizal Khan, although he is popularly known as “Khan Sir.” Over the years, he has gained a massive following, with lakhs of students enrolling in his courses.
On 2 June, at around 10:30 p.m. nearly 20 individuals allegedly vandalised the premises of Khan Global Studies (KGS) in the Musallahpur Hat area of Patna and reportedly assaulted a security guard. In response to the incident, Khan Sir allegedly instructed his two bodyguards to fire warning shots in the air to bring the situation under control. According to Khan Sir, the attackers damaged property, assaulted the security guard, and opened fire during the incident.
He further alleged that the vandalism may have been orchestrated by a rival coaching institute, Gyan Bindu Coaching Centre, claiming that some competitors were unhappy with the success of KGS and its affordable education model. Following Khan Sir’s statement, Roshan Anand was arrested in connection with the case, and security was provided to the coaching institute. Khan Sir thanked the police for ensuring the safety of the institution. During the investigation, police reportedly recovered CCTV footage showing Khan Sir with his two bodyguards on the night of the incident. According to investigators, the footage suggests that he instructed the bodyguards to fire gunshots. The bodyguards were subsequently arrested, their weapons were seized, and they were sent to judicial custody. The bodyguards allegedly stated that they fired the shots on Khan Sir’s instructions. An FIR was registered at Kadamkuan Police Station, and Khan Sir’s name was also included in the case.
Although legal proceedings have been initiated against him, he had not been arrested as of 8 June. Following the developments, students organised rallies in support of Khan Sir and Roshan Anand across several parts of Bihar. Meanwhile, Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari stated that the state government would formulate a policy within three months to prevent rivalry and conflicts among coaching institutes.
The incident has gained widespread attention on social media and television news channels. It has also been alleged that a few days earlier, journalist Anjana Kashyap made controversial remarks about YouTube educators, referring to them as “two-penny teachers.” In response, several online educators reportedly made indirect remarks against her, with Khan Sir being among them. Subsequently, a defamation case was reportedly filed against him in the Delhi High Court. According to police sources, Khan Sir has not yet been arrested and efforts are being made to locate him.
On 8 June, a hearing was conducted in the Patna Civil Court regarding his anticipatory bail application. His counsel argued for anticipatory bail, and the court reserved its decision, which is expected to be delivered on 9 June.
